The 4RemoteHealth platform connects the Emergency Department of Hospital de Berga with the ICU of Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Manresa in real time.
Zerintia HealthTech, a Spanish digital health company, serves as the technology enabler of the new Territorial Tele-ICU service in Berguedà (Barcelona), which was presented last month by the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya. This pioneering project connects, in real time, the Emergency Department of Hospital de Berga with the Intensive Care Unit of Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Manresa, managed by the Althaia Foundation.
The technological solution is based on the 4RemoteHealth software developed by Zerintia HealthTech. This platform enables collaborative work between healthcare professionals in critical scenarios. It allows real-time remote monitoring, secure video communication between medical teams, integration of clinical data, and shared viewing of diagnostic tests. It also includes a mobile application so that on-call medical staff can follow the patient’s progress from anywhere in the hospital.
Thanks to this technology, professionals at Hospital de Berga—a center without its own ICU—can immediately connect with intensive care specialists at the Manresa hospital. The system, equipped with a high-resolution camera, allows for real-time visualization and monitoring of the patient and the sharing of complementary tests that assist in diagnosis. This facilitates decision-making for professionals at Hospital de Berga and speeds up the prediction of complications by enabling a more precise assessment of the patient’s condition. Additionally, it helps optimize urgent treatment to stabilize the patient if transfer remains necessary.
The model, part of the Criti.cat project by the Department of Health, was launched a year ago as a pilot and has since been consolidated with excellent results: in six months, 35 critical patients were treated, avoiding unnecessary transfers and ensuring early and coordinated care.
Zerintia HealthTech contributes its expertise in telemedicine technologies by providing innovative tools for the remote visualization and analysis of patient status. Its solution allows for the integration of real-time monitoring systems and access to clinical data and complementary tests from any location, strengthening the capacity of medical teams to act quickly.
Berguedà is a county located in the northern part of the province of Barcelona, in a pre-Pyrenean area of Catalonia. With a dispersed population and complex geography, the region relies on county-level health services such as Hospital de Berga, which lacks its own intensive care unit. This territorial reality makes the deployment of telemedicine solutions particularly relevant.
