The 4RemoteHealth platform facilitates training in thoracic surgery delivered by Dr. González Rivas at Hospital Universitario de Jaén.

Zerintia HealthTech, a Spanish digital health company, acted as the technological enabler for the advanced Uniportal VATS course led by Dr. Diego González Rivas at Hospital Universitario de Jaén, organized in collaboration with Reach Surgical, the event’s official sponsor. The 4RemoteHealth platform served as the technological backbone for the training, held over two days and focused on this minimally invasive thoracic surgery technique that accesses the patient’s chest through a single incision.

Zerintia HealthTech’s technology enabled seamless integration of the Da Vinci robotic system, a laparoscopic tower, and various medical devices into one connected environment. 4RemoteHealth provided technical support for live broadcasting, clinical case recording, and the simultaneous connection of two operating rooms with the hospital’s auditorium, enabling effective two-way communication between speakers and participants. Additionally, physicians from around the world were able to follow the surgeries remotely via a webinar, broadening the educational reach of the event.

The course was aimed at thoracic surgeons with basic experience in the technique, looking to refine advanced skills. It featured two anatomical uniportal VATS segmentectomies, a minimally invasive procedure involving the removal of a specific segment of the lung through a single small incision, guided by an endoscopic camera. This technique allows for the treatment of lung lesions with reduced trauma and faster recovery compared to traditional surgery.

The training also included a robotic LSI double sleeve lobectomy (arterial and bronchial), a minimally invasive robotic procedure in which the upper left lobe of the lung is removed while simultaneously reconstructing both the pulmonary artery and bronchus.

With over 15 years of experience, Dr. González Rivas was the first surgeon in the world to perform anatomical resections via single-port VATS. He continues to combat lung cancer and other conditions in hospitals across the globe. His groundbreaking Uniportal technique enables surgery inside the thoracic cavity through a small intercostal or subxiphoid incision using thoracoscopic (Uniportal VATS) or robotic (Uniportal RATS) methods. In some cases, these interventions are performed without tracheal intubation or general anesthesia, allowing patients to be discharged within 24–48 hours post-surgery.
