4RemoteHealth x HUGO RAS — telementoring

Surgical Telementoring Live: Robotic Surgery from the Operating Room to the University

07/05/2026

Surgical telementoring is already a reality: 4RemoteHealth live-streamed a robotic hemicolectomy from the operating room to the classrooms of Uvic-UCC.

Dr. Pablo Collera performed the procedure using the HUGO RAS robot at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Manresa and streamed it in real time to his university students. The surgery, led alongside Dr. Carlos Gómez and Dr. Meritxell Font, was broadcast as a live webinar through 4RemoteHealth, Zerintia HealthTech‘s medical telepresence platform.

What Is surgical telementoring and why is it changing medical education?

Surgical telementoring is the ability of an expert surgeon to guide, supervise, or provide real-time commentary on a clinical procedure from a remote location.

However, unlike conventional video, a medical telepresence platform like 4RemoteHealth enables two-way communication, live image annotation, and secure access to patient clinical information — turning every procedure into a learning opportunity without the need to travel.

In this case, Dr. Collera integrated the live stream into his own course at the University of Vic: students followed the procedure from the classroom, asked questions in real time, and witnessed firsthand how a robotic surgery team operates in a real high-complexity environment.

The procedure: robotic hemicolectomy with HUGO RAS

The HUGO RAS system by Medtronic is a next-generation remote robotic surgery platform that enables minimally invasive procedures with high precision. In this case, the surgical team performed a robotic hemicolectomy at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Manresa, part of the Althaia healthcare network.

Notably, what made this procedure particularly significant was its educational dimension: thanks to 4RemoteHealth, more than 60 students were able to observe every phase of the surgery in real time, with the same clarity as if they had been inside the operating room — without interfering with the sterile environment or patient safety. An experience no conventional classroom can replicate.

4RemoteHealth: Zerintia HealthTech’s connected surgery platform

4RemoteHealth is a SaaS platform for remote clinical collaboration developed by Zerintia HealthTech, a Spanish company specialized in digital health. Designed specifically for healthcare settings, it integrates high-quality video communication, augmented reality tools to guide clinical procedures, AI-powered automatic translation, and secure access to clinical information.

In addition, the platform is hardware-independent and can be deployed across a wide range of connected devices, including the rugged Panasonic Toughbook tablets. This flexibility allows hospitals to adopt medical telepresence solutions without the need to replace their existing technology infrastructure.

This live stream from the University of Vic is part of a broader strategy by Zerintia HealthTech to establish connected surgery as a standard of care. Cases like this demonstrate that the technology already exists, has been proven in real clinical settings. It can be implemented in any hospital environment.
